The dilemma

The entry form says in bold that everything must be grown or made by the person entering it. Judging is at two, prizes at four, and the whole thing runs on a marquee, a tea urn and a fifteen pound voucher for each class. You have the shoebox open on your knees. Ten of Adaeze's slips are in the same neat cursive, and the eleventh, the sponge, is in biro block capitals and came in at the door this morning. You cannot throw anybody out on your own, and you know exactly who you would have to ask.

Your options

  1. Have a quiet word with Adaeze, just between neighbours.
  2. The condition is printed on the form. Say so to the committee.
  3. Go and look at the cake before deciding what this even is.

Eleven Entry Slips

The best cake at the village show came from a shop. You are the one holding the entry slips.
