The dilemma

Thursday morning. The notice lifted on Wednesday. The message from the utility said the mains are clear and that every building should flush its own pipes and have them tested before use. Only the breakfast club has run this week. All sixty children are back on Monday, yours among them, and the fountains go back on with them. On your way to the kitchen you count four crates of supermarket water against the corridor wall, which somebody must have donated, and Marta's door is open for the first time all week.

Your options

1. Fill the jugs from the crates instead of the tap and leave the pipes to the people whose job they are.
2. Knock on Marta's door and ask her to keep the fountains off until somebody tests them.
3. Post the utility's own words about flushing and testing in the parents' group and ask if anyone has seen a result.
