The dilemma

A touring chamber orchestra wants you for a paid nine month season, your first real playing work since you came home at thirty. They need an answer in a week, the town season starts in two months, and nobody else knows how any of it runs. Reading the offer again before tonight's rehearsal, one line stops you: 'Whoever put your name in front of me really believes in you.' You never applied.

Your options

  1. Bring it to the room tonight and let the orchestra work it out with you
  2. Take the tour now, and tell them once it is signed
  3. Spend the week quietly looking for someone to replace you

The Chair You Never Left

You kept the town orchestra alive for ten years for free. Now a paid job wants you, and there is nobody to take your place.
