The dilemma

You have quietly noticed the Admiral keeps two logs of the ship's distance. The one he reads to the frightened men shows a shorter distance to keep them calm. The private one he locks in his desk you have glimpsed only once, a page thick with crossings-out and second guesses, as if he too is lost and afraid to admit how far off course you have drifted. This evening, he catches you looking at the locked drawer.

Your options

  1. Tell him privately that a captain who lies to his men loses his honor. You will not help him deceive them.
  2. Say nothing and nod. The lie prevents a panic that would get everyone killed.
  3. Acknowledge it and walk away. His log is his choice, and your job is just to navigate the ship.

The Admiral's Log

The men are scared and ready to take the ship. You just found out the captain is keeping two different logs of how far you have sailed. Do you tell them?
