The dilemma

The surgeon is ready and the consent form is in front of you. Your sister grips your arm and tells you to sign, that of course he would want to live. They do not know what he told you. You could sign right now and never carry it alone again, or you could say the thing only you heard. What do you do?

Your options

  1. Say it out loud. Tell them he told you he never wanted this, and hold to it even though it costs his life and no one would have known if you stayed quiet.
  2. Sign. He is right there, alive and fixable, and he needs you to choose his life for him now.
  3. Sign. One thing he said once, against the years of life this gives him back, is not a real contest.

The Proxy

Only you know he asked to be let go. Sign, and no one would ever know you heard him.
